There is a common debate on whether or not the government, specifically the FBI, should hire professional hackers to work for them in order to solve problems and loopholes in the security systems. Although this could fix some problems I believe it would cause more problems. Find a hacker for help
Hacking causes problems on a daily basis due to the increase in technology and how easy it is to access information. Identity theft and computer hacking is becoming a major problem and has affected around 43 million Americans over the past 12 months. Find a hacker for help
If we allow hackers to be involved with the government and FBI then we are allowing them so much access to information that they should not have access to because of how highly secretive it is. Giving hackers access to this information would not be a good safety measure due to the fact that the information they have involves the national security and a break in the national security would cause harm to every single American.
There are some good hackers that want to help but it would be very hard to distinguish these good hackers from the bad hackers because they have all done something that has classified them as a hacker, which is illegal, so trying to distinguish which crime is not as illegal as the other crimes would be difficult to determine. Trusting these people, who have committed crimes through hacking, would be hard because you never know when they are going to utilize their hacking through illegal ways again and if they already know all about the FBI security system and how to find the loopholes then they can use that to harm the American government. Although the FBI did pay someone to help hack into the iPhone of the San Bernardino terrorist because Apple would not let the FBI gain access, this would be the least intense work that the hackers would do. The FBI wants to hire hackers so that they can fix the security systems and find any loopholes so that they can fix the problem but the risk in these hackers turning against the program is high because they are hackers who make a living doing illegal activities through the utilization of technology. In May 2014, a well-known hacker who had been sentenced due to perpetrating attacks against the government and other private businesses got released from jail after seven months. He was released because the government wanted him to catch other hackers in order to prevent other countless attacks. This is insane because once you are a criminal and have been to jail you should not be trusted with government information. This hacker that has been placed in jail because of doing something illegal towards the government and then they try to get him to help stop other hackers from hacking into the government systems. These hackers that he is trying to stop are his co-conspirators and people he has been hacking against and with. They all know each so what makes you think that this criminal is going to stop his colleagues from doing something they all love to do? It’s ridiculous that this is even a thought to let someone who has been known to work against the government to be hired as a governmental employee to help stop what he was originally convicted for. Another problem with hackers helping the FBI is that the FBI is having a hard time finding hackers who do not smoke marijuana. The FBI should not want to hire people who smoke marijuana, which is also illegal, but the FBI Director, James Comey, said that the FBI would have to let them smoke marijuana if they wanted to hire these people because they are not going to work for the FBI if they have to stop smoking it. If they hire these people who are smoking marijuana that is not safe for the government at all because marijuana affects your brain and cause strange behaviour so allowing these people with top-secret government files and access to the security of the government would not be the smartest idea the government has had. These hackers are skilled at what they do and already know the loopholes around the security systems because they have so much knowledge about it so what makes you think that they are going to stop using hacking in illegal ways just to help the government. All in all, the government, specifically the FBI, should not hire hackers to help them because it would overall harm the security of every single American.
